The story behind One Great City, the site. I've been running websites since 2003, when I was in eighth grade. The first site I ever made was dedicated to my favorite band, Blink 182, on gURL[dot]com. And from there, things grew. Now I own my own domain and run several sites on it, including two fan listings. So, why have an art site?
Art is a big part of my life, though perhaps it wasn't when I first started making websites. Either way, it is now. I am an Art Education major at Towson University currently, though when I started this site two years ago, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Back then, I just knew I liked to write and I liked to draw. Originally, I had planned to showcase my art on the main hub - justdepends - but decided to create a seperate site for my art mainly so it could be better organized. That's pretty much it.

The story behind the site name is pretty much like all my site names. They're usually derived from song titles, in this case, One Great City! by The Weakerthans. When I was creating this site two years ago, I had just gotten my first wacom tablet that christmas along with one of The Weakerthan's cds, Reconstruction Site. Needless to say, I because obsessed with both the tablet and the cd.
At the time I had been thinking of seperating my art works from just depends and giving them their own space to glimmer and shine. So one day I sat down and started making a layout. And I just happened to be listening to One Great City! when I was sitting there, trying to think of a name for the site. And well, it just clicked for me I guess. The site would be named One Great City after one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands. And that was that.

One Great City!
by The Weakerthans
late afternoon another day is nearly done
a darker grey is breaking through a lighter one
a thousand sharpened elbows in the underground
that hollow hurried sound of feet on polished floor
and in the dollar store the clerk is closing
and counting loonies trying not to say
i hate winnipeg

the driver checks the mirror seven minutes late
crowded riders' restlessness enunciates
the guess who suck, the jets were lousy anyway
the same mood every day
and in the turning lane
someone's stalled again
he's talking to himself
and hears the price of gas repeat his phrase
i hate winnipeg

up above us all,
leaning into sky
our golden business boy
will watch the north end die
and sing 'i love this town'
then let his arching wrecking ball proclaim:
"i...hate...winnipeg"
